Air TravelAirline PoliciesPlanningmilitary man and his family have the right for military discount in Frontier

Frontier Airlines prides itself on being America’s greenest airline, with an average of 43% less fuel usage compared to other airlines operating in the US. On top of this, they are an ultra-low-cost option for those traveling on a budget. But do they show their appreciation to the country’s biggest heroes?

Frontier Airlines does not offer any discounts on ticket fares for military personnel. They offer reduced baggage fees, with an allowance of one personal item, one carry-on bag, and two checked bags for free. They also waive overweight and oversized fees for the first two checked bags.

Stick around to find out more about these baggage allowances and waived fees. Plus, find out whether these benefits apply only to military personnel. Or can their dependents expect the same special treatment?

Ticket fares

Frontier Airlines does not offer discounts on ticket fares to military personnel or their dependents. Fortunately, the general pricing on tickets at this airline is already very low compared to other companies.

Baggage allowance

The biggest benefit for military personnel is Frontier’s baggage allowances. The airline gives these passengers an allowance of one personal item, one carry-on bag, and two checked bags for free. You need to show a Common Access Card with a uniformed services affiliation at check-in to claim this offer.

The benefit only applies to active duty armed forces, reserves, and national guard US military passengers. Military personnel don’t have to be traveling on orders and the baggage allowance does not extend to dependents, immediate family members, or traveling companions.

Oversized and overweight baggage

The next best benefit for military personnel is that their overweight and oversized fees get waived for the bag allowance of 2 checked bags for free. Here are the size requirements and corresponding fees:

Personal items

Personal items need to meet the size requirements of 8” D x 18” W x 14” H (20 x 45 x 35 cm). This includes the handles, wheels and straps of the item.

Carry-on bags

Carry-on bags can weigh a maximum of 35 lbs (20 kg), while the size limit is 10″ D x 16″ W x 24″ H (25 x 40 x 60 cm), including handles, wheels, and straps.

Checked bags

Checked bags can weigh up to 40 lbs (18 kg) each, with a size limit of 62 linear inches (157 cm), including handles, wheels, and straps. Any bag weighed/measured more than these numbers will be considered oversized/overweight.

The absolute maximum weight limit for checked bags is 100 lbs (45 kg), while the size limit is 110 linear inches (279 cm). Bags heavier and bigger than this will not be accepted on the plane.

The fee for oversized baggage is $75 per bag, per direction. Overweight baggage will cost between $50 and $100 extra per bag, per direction.

Despite the lack of incentives for military personnel, Frontier’s other policies aren’t too bad compared to those of other airlines. If you’re flying with this airline soon, have a look at our article on their baggage policy for a clear guideline on size limits and restricted items.
