FAQ
This is my first time playing golf – what does the term ‘rough’ mean?
When you hit a ball in a ‘rough’ area of a golf course, this refers to the lawn’s long length- with moderate or low grass heights, hitting the ball should be relatively easy. However, very challenging roughs can cause challenges in gauging the velocity and angle to swing.
To avoid infringement on the ‘play as is’ golf policy, refrain from pulling out or standing directly on the green to get an advantage on your next hit; this is essentially cheating and will result in a penalty. Instead, you should play as is, using your skill and better judgment, or cut your losses and declare them unplayable.
To be prepared for your first time, understanding golf package pros/cons will help you better understand what they entail; our article also covers which states will give you the best stay-and-play experience and details the benefits of using your clubs and provided clubs.
I have a 5-way golf bag – what’s the best way to arrange my golf clubs?
Examine your golf bag and evaluate which compartment has the most room; this is ideally where low-lofted golf clubs should go. Hybrids or long irons are designed to fit in the middle-left slot, and irons of mid and short size ideally fit best on the right side. Wedges generally fit best in the front space. Our article on traveling with golf clubs details various other ways to keep your equipment secure.

How soon should I arrive before tee time?
For your scheduled tee time, it’s best to be safe and allow yourself at least a 30-minute window. This is primarily for pre-game preparation; you’ll need to inform the starter of your arrival, which should be close to the first tee or in the golf store. In addition, you’ll also get a sense of the day’s operations running smoothly and make last-minute equipment preparations if needed.
If a stay and play package is not a must, you’ll have more course options. Check them out in our list of the best golf courses in Myrtle Beach.
