The East Tennessee State University men’s golf team has gained widespread attention on social media after a video posted by the school’s social media account depicted Delta Air Lines employees mishandling the team’s golf bags. This incident occurred as the team prepared for their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships.

Viral Video Sparks Social Media Backlash

The video, shared on ETSU’s golf account, captured airline employees throwing the team’s golf bags upon their arrival. The footage quickly gained traction on social media, with numerous users expressing their discontent with similar experiences involving the airline. In response to the video, Delta’s social media account engaged with several users who voiced their concerns.

Delta’s Response and Apology

Delta also issued a direct response to the team’s video, which had garnered nine million views by Thursday afternoon. In their statement, Delta expressed regret over the mishandling of the golf clubs, stating, “We’re so sorry this is how your golf clubs were handled. It’s not who we are. And we’re working to make it right, so you’ll have everything you need to compete at the tournament this weekend.”

ETSU’s NCAA Championship

The ETSU Buccaneers secured their place in the NCAA championship for the fourth consecutive year after achieving a commendable second-place finish at the Chapel Hill Regional earlier in the month. This marks the men’s team’s 21st appearance in the championship, highlighting their consistent success and competitive prowess in collegiate golf.

The NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships are set to commence on Friday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The event will feature six individuals and 30 teams competing in a 54-hole round, with only the top 15 teams and top nine individuals progressing to the subsequent stage. This prestigious competition serves as a platform for showcasing the talent and skill of collegiate golfers from across the nation.
